Through 300 pm, scattered showers and thunderstorms will wax and 

wane within a broad zone from east of the Marathon Humps, to eastern

portions of the Lower Keys, and also in the coastal waters 

surrounding the Dry Tortugas. Movement will be chaotic and generally 

less than 5 to 10 knots, although the showers and storms near the Dry

Tortugas will move discernibly to the west- southwest. The stronger 

storms will produce wind gusts near 30 knots, blinding downpours, 

and occasional cloud to surface lightning strikes. The Sombrero Key 

CMAN station recently gusted to 35 knots under a collapsing 

thunderstorm.
