Area Forecast Discussion

National Weather Service New Orleans LA

120 PM CDT Thu Jun 26 2025

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...

(Today through Friday)

Issued at 252 AM CDT Thu Jun 26 2025

Large complex of storms forming over the SE CONUS will continue to

move west the next few days bringing some of this activity into our

area. The one that should move into the area today is just now

getting started over GA. This area will continue to be very rainy

over the short term but this will remain in the extended as well.

With ample heating, there will be a low but credible chance of one

or two of these storms becoming strong or severe. This could be said

for most days during the summer.

.LONG TERM...

(Friday night through Wednesday)

Issued at 252 AM CDT Thu Jun 26 2025

The same general pattern will play out over the weekend. Then the

weakness over the SE CONUS will be replaced by more weakness as we

move into next week. A broad weak trough axis will move into the SE

and stall. This axis will help our area have a bit more activity

than normal by mid to late next week as it orients itself over the

FL panhandle and westward into MS/LA where it will bend into a more

NW direction. This will help keep precip numbers high going through

next week.

.AVIATION...

(18Z TAFS)

VFR outside TSRA through this cycle. TSRA chances will be a bit

higher today, but mainly along and north of a line from KASD to

KBTR. Did add some PROB30 groups for those terminals.

.MARINE...

Issued at 252 AM CDT Thu Jun 26 2025

Winds will be light easterly to variable today outside storms. This

pattern will continue through the weekend. The start of next week,

winds will begin to shift to a westerly direction and possibly rise

to around 15kt by mid week. Storms will be possible each day and

night which will be capable of causing rapid rises and shifts in

winds.
