...DIMINISHING THREAT OF DEVELOPING TROPICAL CYCLONE TO AFFECT

MARIANAS...

The disorganized tropical disturbance, Invest 97W, is centered well

west of Saipan near 16N140E. Recent radar and satellite imagery shows

a much quieter pattern across the Marianas with heavy showers having

pushed off well to the west of the islands after dumping 2 to 5

inches of rain over much of the region the past 36 hours.

While latest model guidance still favors gradual development of 97W

in the coming days, such trends will be slow and increasingly further

away from the Marianas. Thus far, the dominant concern has been the

rainfall threat for the next several days. The departure of 97W from

the Marianas does lessen that concern, though the Marianas should

still anticipate heavier showers and thunderstorms moving over the

islands from time to time.

Concerning the threat for wind hazards, that concern is much reduced

with 97W pulling away from the local area. However, folks planning

outdoor activities or out on the waters should keep up-to-date with

current weather conditions and forecasts.

The NWS will continue monitoring for the potential of a wet and

gusty southwest monsoon pattern that could develop over the islands

next week.

This will be the final Special Weather Statement issued regarding

Invest 97W. Keep up-to-date with the latest forecasts and discussions

by visiting weather.gov/gum/
