...A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL IMPACT NORTHEASTERN MCDOWELL...EAST

CENTRAL MITCHELL...CENTRAL CALDWELL...SOUTHEASTERN AVERY AND WESTERN

BURKE COUNTIES THROUGH 115 PM EDT...



At 1245 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 12

miles southeast of Newland, or 6 miles north of Table Rock, moving

southwest at 10 mph.



HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail.



SOURCE...Radar indicated.



IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around 

         unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is 

         possible.



Locations impacted include...

Lenoir, Morganton, Spruce Pine, Gamewell, Hudson, Cajah's Mountain,

Drexel, Glen Alpine, Cedar Rock, and Linville Falls.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. 



Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to

localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded

roadways.



Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.

Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe

shelter inside a building or vehicle.
